An everchanging life

Starting Fresh

Ruminations

With just a couple of weeks left here in DC, it’s probably time for me to start wrapping up my life here.  I’m looking forward to New York, partly because it will give me the chance to start fresh.  Everyone has always wondered what it would be like to pick up their life, go somewhere completely new, and start over.  I always thought that I’d start over in California, but I’ve learned that life doesn’t really care what your initial plans are.

Anyway, the whole idea of starting over really appeals to me.  I’ve made a lot of mistakes in the past (who hasn’t?) and feel like, if I have a chance to start a new life, I can use what I’ve learned to create a completely different existence for myself.  Instead of going back to the past and fixing my mistakes, I can use what I’ve learned in a completely new environment – one that’s free from reminders of all of the other mistakes, one where I have a chance to meet completely new people and do completely new things.

That’s not to say that I want to forget about everyone back in my old life.  That’s definitely not the case.  I’ve never really had a problem with cutting out people from my life that I don’t think are good for me.  In fact, I think everyone should have the gusto to do that, so I don’t mind leaving behind people that never really made a huge impact on my life.  But there are still people that I absolutely want to keep in touch with.  These are the people that have made a major impact on me, the people that I’m close to, the people that matter.

Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to try and meet up with them one last time, and hopefully while I’m in New York, I’ll have the wherewithal to keep in touch with them, something I’ve been really bad with in the past.  And once I get to New York, I’ll have a new chance.  Something I intend to take full advantage of.
